Black Felt Hat, is a hat that a famous Chinese writer Luxun has mentioned under his literature. Shaped like a bowl, dark black inside and outside with a thick felt, keep people warm. This neat and stiff hat has been populated since Qing Dynasty.
There is a legend about its origin. Long time ago, a hunter killed a tiger in a mountain cave. When he carried the tiger on the way back, he found a felt sticked with blood and flesh, in fact its the left-over hair of pigs and sheep the tiger had devoured under the pressure, the hair become thick when the tiger laid down to rest, its called cake-thick felt.
Nowadays, the main material of this BFH is 100% sheep wool, which is fluffed to be loose and fat, also the oil matter has been removed. After the carding, the wool is piled up and pressed to shape.
The benefit of this BFH is when you wear it, it can shelter against wind and rain while you could put cigarettes or money on the folded sides.
To me, its a sweet memory of my beloved hometown, and I wish you will like this pretty BFH with traditional Chinese embroidery, cranes and marigold, which symbolizes good fortune and longevity.
